Origin of the Term “Salt Nic”

“Salt nic” refers to nicotine salts, a form of nicotine naturally present in tobacco leaves. Unlike freebase nicotine (the standard used in most traditional e-liquids), nicotine salt is created by adding an organic acid — most commonly benzoic acid — to the nicotine molecule. This chemical reaction stabilizes the nicotine compound, creating a “salt-like” molecular structure. Despite the name, it doesn’t involve table salt and contains no sodium.

Why Was Salt Nicotine Created?

• Smoother Throat Hit: Freebase nicotine becomes harsh above ~12mg/mL, but salt nic remains smooth even at 50mg/mL.
• Faster Nicotine Delivery: Mimics the rapid absorption of nicotine found in traditional cigarettes.
• Optimized for Pod Systems: Designed for lower power devices, salt nic excels in compact, discreet hardware that’s easy for former smokers to adopt.
